Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Pinned Eats (“Pinned Eats,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile app and website (together, the “Service”). Pinned Eats is a community app for discovering local food spots, food trucks, and taco stands. By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.
Information you provide
- Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address, a display name, and a username. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email from that provider. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored in hashed form — we never see your plain-text password.
- Content you create. Reviews, ratings, spots you add to the map, check-ins (“Live now” / “Still here”), poll votes, saved spots, and photos you upload.
- Reports. If you report a review, user, spot, photo, or check-in, we collect the report and related content so we can moderate the Service.
Information collected automatically
- Location. With your permission, we collect your device’s location to display nearby food spots and provide location-based features. If you choose to use the “Go Live” feature, we use your current location to update your live position on the map until you stop sharing it. Your precise device location is never shared directly with other users. You can disable location access at any time in your device settings; some features won’t work without it.
- Camera and photo library. With your permission, we access your camera or photo library only when you choose to add a photo to a spot or review. Photos you upload are publicly visible to other users unless otherwise indicated.
- Push notifications. Push notifications are optional. If you enable them, we store a device token so we can send alerts (for example, when a spot you saved goes live). You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
- Usage and device data. Basic technical information such as app version and device type, used to operate and improve the Service.
Permissions
Depending on the features you use, Pinned Eats may request access to:
- Location
- Camera
- Photo Library
- Notifications
These permissions are optional and can be changed at any time in your device settings.
How we use information
- Provide and operate the Service — showing nearby spots, the live map, community polls, and your saved lists and reviews.
- Send transactional emails such as account confirmation and password resets.
- Send push notifications you’ve opted into.
- Moderate content, enforce our Terms of Use, and keep the community safe.
- Detect and prevent fraud, spam, abusive behavior, fake reviews, and other misuse of the Service.
- Diagnose technical problems and improve the Service.
What’s visible to others
Pinned Eats is a community service. Your username, reviews, ratings, photos, and the spots you add are public and visible to other users. Your email address and precise location are not shown to other users. Please don’t include personal information in content you post publicly.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:
- With service providers that operate the Service on our behalf — including Supabase (database, authentication, storage, and hosting), our email delivery provider, Apple and Google (for sign-in), and Apple’s and Expo’s push-notification services. Map features use Apple Maps.
- Public content as described above.
- For legal reasons — to comply with law, enforce our terms, or protect the rights, safety, and property of our users or the public.
- In a business transfer — if Pinned Eats is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
Your information may be stored and processed in the United States, where our providers operate.
Cookies and analytics
Our website may use cookies or similar technologies to remember your preferences, maintain your session, and understand how the Service is used. We may also use analytics tools to improve performance and user experience. You can manage cookies through your browser settings.
Third-party websites
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices or content.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account in the app, or from Account settings on the website.
Deleting your account permanently removes your personal information, including your reviews, ratings, saved spots, check-ins, and poll votes. Spots and polls you added to the community may remain in anonymized form (no longer linked to you) so the map stays intact for other users. We will process account deletion requests promptly. Some information may be retained only where required by law, to resolve disputes, prevent fraud, or enforce our agreements.
Your choices and rights
- Access, correct, or delete your account information in the app or on the website.
- Turn location, camera, photo, and notification permissions on or off in your device settings.
- Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in the EU/UK or the CCPA in California), you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to certain processing.
- California residents may have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of their personal information, request correction of inaccurate information, and exercise other rights provided by California law.
To make a request, contact us at the email below.
Legal basis for processing (EEA/UK users)
Where applicable, we process personal information based on your consent, our legitimate interests in operating and improving the Service, the performance of our contract with you, and compliance with legal obligations.
Children’s privacy
Pinned Eats is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard security measures, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), secure authentication, hashed passwords through our authentication provider, and access controls designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
